Youth Group - August 08

In preparation for a trip to Rwanda to help in the construction of a primary school a youth team spent some time looking at culture, identity, culture conflict and culture shock.

This is what some of them said after the workshop.

What was helpful in the session on understanding culture?
I had time to think about what culture really means and how I will adapt to a new situation and act in a new environment.

What did you learn about culture and identity?
Made me think of who I am and what makes me what I am - not really thought that through before.

What difference has this session made to how you view people from another culture?
Be more open minded and look on differences positively.
They are different to us, but this does not make how they act wrong.

What else did you find helpful?
I learned to appreciate that there are different ways of doing things.
The five stages of culture shock let us know what to expect.
Learning to watch how people in the other culture do things.
Want to work on the journal idea.
