Volunteers

Going overseas as a volunteer for a short-term project can be one of the most exciting and life-changing experiences. But often the experience can be marred by misunderstandings and unintentional offence both for the volunteers and for the hosts.

"Contact with different cultures teaches us not just about the world but about ourselves."

Preparation
Gain a greater insight into the culture of your hosts by becoming culturally aware. Our core cultural awareness programme will help you understand your own cultural development and open up a greater awareness of the culture of others as different but equally valid.

Culture Shock

Whether you are going overseas for a couple of weeks or an extended period of time, it is helpful to know that there is a recognised process that you will go through as you adjust to your new situation.  Knowing about this process, known as 'Culture Shock' will make your adjustment to your new culture less stressful and more manageable.

Get the most out of your cross-cultural contact by looking at how your behaviour can be seen by others and the best way to deal with misunderstandings.
